Mass Shooting Reported at Brown University Campus

Multiple people have been reported shot near Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island, prompting the university to issue an active shooter alert during the second day of final exams. Students and staff have been instructed to shelter in place and avoid the area as police and emergency responders respond to the scene.

The shooting was reported near the Barus & Holley building, a major academic complex that houses Brown’s School of Engineering and physics department, including numerous laboratories, classrooms, and offices. Police have not released details about the number of victims, their conditions, or the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

University officials initially told students and staff that a suspect was in custody, but later corrected that information, saying police are actively searching for a suspect or suspects. Authorities emphasize that information remains preliminary as investigators work to determine what occurred.

Providence police confirm the investigation is ongoing and urge the public to continue avoiding the area while law enforcement gathers information.
