The possum and the AR-15 share an odd kinship in how they’re perceived. Most people see a possum and think “dirty, dangerous pest,” when in reality it’s a quiet, beneficial animal that eats ticks, snakes, and waste, keeping ecosystems balanced. The AR-15 gets the same treatment: portrayed as nothing but a weapon of destruction, when in the hands of responsible owners it’s a versatile tool for sport shooting, training, and home defense. In both cases, the reputation comes more from fear and misinformation than from reality, and both the possum and the AR-15 play roles that make communities healthier and safer if you actually take the time to understand them.
