The Battle of Blair Mountain, the largest U.S. labor uprising, occurred in 1921 in Logan County, WV. For five days, 10,000 miners clashed with 3,000 lawmen backed by coal operators. The U.S. Army intervened, ending the battle after one million rounds were fired. Though about 100 died and union membership dipped, the event ultimately improved conditions and union visibility.
